Cardamom is one of the world’s very ancient spices.  Cardamom is a type of seed pod that has very aromatic seeds that are generally used as a spice to add flavor to cooking and beverages.  Green cardamom can be identified as small green or white seed pods that range from half an inch (1/2″) long or smaller, roughly one fourth inch (1/4″) or less in diameter. From one end to another end, the seed pods taper to a point, and have a triangular cross section that corresponds to 3 chambers for storing seeds.

Today cardamom is grown in Sri Lanka, Guatemala, Indo China and Tanzania. Guatemala produces over 55% of the worlds cardamom and is considered the leading supplier of high-quality Green cardamom…. Elettaria cardamom which is the true cardamom that is grown in Guatemala.  So, you may ask yourself…. What makes Guatemala Cardamom flavorful and in high demand worldwide, it is the warm humid climate, soil rich in organic matter, distributed rainfall and special processing methods all combine to make Guatemalan cardamom truly unique in aroma, flavor, size and green color.

The country of Origin for Elettaria Cardamom is Guatemala.
